'Webheads in Action : Bridges across Cyberspace' is a 3-DAY NON-STOP MARATHON ONLINE CONFERENCE organised voluntarily by Vance Stevens and the Webheads, and taking place in several venues. It starts at 2.00 GMT on Friday, 18th November, with Vance moderating the first invited keynote speaker, and continues 24 hours a day until 22.00 GMT on Sunday, 20th November. The asynchronous venue for this presentation "Language learning through global communication: a dozen years of people-to-people interaction" is here in Moodle;the synchronous Skypecast session is at 9.00 GMT at World Bridges. This is an interactive live presentation created for the Nordic Voice Conference in November 2005. It is aimed at international, and in particular, Nordic
language teachers who are interested in communicate language learning on line. The DiscussIt courses, and in
particular the International Writing Exchange(IWE), will be discussed by some of the IWE teachers and students in a live Skype conference, hosted by Ruth Vilmi at the EdTech Talk site, www.edtechtalk.com. Participants can join in with comments and questions in a text chat at www.writeit.to/sys and, thanks to Dave Cormier and Geoff's help, can listen to the webcast simultaneously at www.edtechtalk.com.

The Best of the Web for Language Teachers

This is a workshop created for the SAALT conference at Pretoria University, South Africa in July 2005. It is aimed at teachers in South Africa who are interested in learning how to use the resources on the Web in their language teaching, whether in distance learning, blended learning or for publishing course handouts and materials, but the ideas can be used globally.
Workshop for Espoo Language Teachers October 2005

This is a workshop created in October 2005. It is aimed at Finnish language teachers in Espoo who are interested in learning how to use the resources on the
Web in their language teaching, whether in distance learning or in addition to classroom learning. The DiscussIt courses, and in particular the International Writing Exchange, will be discussed and teachers can participate in a live course by adding comments to the international students' writing.
International Writing Exchange - IWE Round 59
This international course runs free of charge from 14th September to the end of December 2009, and consists of two courses of 6 - 8 weeks. Registration is necessary.

Students should have intermediate to advanced writing skills. Teachers, classes and individual students are expected to commit to the international schedule for at least six weeks. It has been found that students benefit greatly by committing to two rounds.
Teachers are encouraged to communicate with each other in the Teachers forum in the Moodle, and by email, and actively search for suitable class partners, e.g at http://onlinelanguageservices.ning.com/
International Writing Exchange - IWE Red (Round 40)

This is an advanced level, distance learning course; it runs continuously throughout the year in six-week modules or "rounds". Students exchange ideas on general and controversial topics in structured international discussion forums. The basic course lasts for twelve weeks; there is also an intensive option, lasting six weeks.
